Tiana Day is a 17-year-old Black Lives Matter activist who organized, gave speeches, and led protests around her home state of California. Tiana, who lives in San Ramon, just graduated from Dougherty Valley High School, where she was a kid who “got into lots of trouble.” This summer has changed her though. She has led protests and luckily has an incredible friend who supports her “I only have one friend who's really like my best friend and I’m always with her and through all my protests and activism, she’s been extremely supportive,” she told us. She said that her parents worked very hard for her to be in a good place, there were even times when her dad was working 5 jobs at once. “I’m so grateful that my parents have raised me in a beautiful two parent household, in a beautiful area, in a beautiful house, in a great school district.” said Tiana in her SF Golden Gate Bridge protest speech.

She enjoys cheerleading and had planned on going to UC Berkeley to continue her cheerleading passion. When she started protesting and becoming a social justice activist, she realized that she wanted to stay in San Ramon so that she could continue to change the world. “I can’t stop now,” she said. Tianna decided that instead of going to college in Berkeley, she would stay in her hometown and go to a community college instead. Tiana has always wanted to be a civil rights lawyer but she was never very politically active until this year, “The protesting, it lit a fire in me,” she told us. We asked her if she had any advice for someone who wanted to start protesting, “Take precautions, advertise and enforce a direct message and come prepared,” she responded.
